What do the different fire classes actually mean?

Class A: Are fires in ordinary combustibles of fibrous material, such as wood, paper, curtains, furniture, cloth, rubber and some plastic.
Class B: Are fires in flammable liquids such as gasoline, petroleum, oil, paint.
Class D: Are fires in combustible metals such as potassium, sodium, aluminium and magnesium.
Class E: Electrical fire up to 1000 Volt. Minimum distance to fire 1 meter.
Class F: Are fires in cooking oils and greases such as animal fats and vegetable fats.
